The majority of the population live in rural locations and the infrastructure in the country side is underdeveloped compared to developed countries outside of the third world. As it is a poor continent, in regard to the wealth of people (Doyle, 2009) the idea of buying a holiday is still beyond the means of most people, and before the arrival of air travel Africa was considered as practically inaccessible, and the standards of air travel was seen as very poor (Boniface and Cooper, 2001, 240), but over the years Africa have manages to develop the standards of the mains of travel.

However South Africa is the biggest domestic leisure destination with two thirds of its visitors coming from other part of Africa. There continues to be rapid growth in their leisure industry due to the increase in budget airlines and middle to upper class expansions, flying to and from South Africa internally, with six major domestic airlines in South Africa (South Africa info, 2014). The majority of the visitors who arrive from outside of the continent are more affluent than the majority of the indigenous population.
